Bug Description

I'm prompted to download new programmes when Freeguide starts but after a few moments I get this error message:

Running command: "C:\Program Files\FreeGuide\xmltv/xmltv.exe" tv_grab_uk_rt --quiet --config-file "C:\Users\Daw\.freeguide\xmltv-configs\uk_rt.conf"
No channels selected in configfile C:\Users\Uncle Daw\.freeguide\xmltv-configs\uk_rt.conf
Please run the grabber with --configure.
Error executing grabber: Content is not allowed in prolog.
Result code = 1

I'm not sure of the exact date when this first happened - probably about 6 weeks ago. I've reselected the channels but this makes no difference.

Any pointers?

Please try deleting the file C:\Users\Uncle Daw\.freeguide\xmltv-configs\uk_rt.conf, then going to Tools, Choose Channels and choosing again.

After that hopefully the programmes will download ok. Please let us know how it goes.

Andy,

The problem with RT has been going on for some time and is with the Radio
Times server. The best solution is to repeatedly try to download. It does
eventually work.

Richard

Please try deleting the file C:\Users\Uncle Daw\.freeguide\xmltv-
configs\uk_rt.conf, then going to Tools, Choose Channels and choosing
again.

After that hopefully the programmes will download ok. Please let us
know how it goes.

Thank you! Deleting the config file cleared the problem and the programmes have downloaded. BBC2 still hasn't downloaded (that problem is covered in another thread).

Cheers,
Donald

Hi Donald, brilliant news!
Richard, the error Donald was seeing wasn't related to the RT failures.

ref bug #652614 "Unable to download any programmes"

I had a similar problem in the US using Win 8. I solved it by changing the working directory under 'Tools/Options/General' to a path with no spaces, e.g. Working Dir: C:\FreeGuideWrkg. Evidently if the program is loaded in a directory whose path includes a space, the default working directory shares the same path. I assume most casual Windows users load FreeGuide into C:\Program Files\ FreeGuide. Which, in my case, resulted in the following error:

Running command: "C:\Program Files (x86)\FreeGuide\xmltv/xmltv.exe" tv_grab_na_dd --quiet --config-file "C:\Program Files (x86)\FreeGuide\xmltv-configs\na_dd.conf"
*ERROR* Username not specified. Please run --configure
Error executing grabber: Content is not allowed in prolog.
Result code = 1

Note: the originalbug report looks like it might have had a space in the path

Re-running config had no effect on the problem. Evidently the path truncates at the space (seen this happen many times using either PERL or Visual Basic (or maybe both, need to quote and assign to a string variable).
