Bug Description

i hope this is the right place to file a bug so it gets fixed in edgy final.

A whole lot of Acer Laptops with the Realtek ALC883 chip only got sound working very recently, after somebody submitted a patch to the ALSA project (which is integrated into ALSA-driver versions 1.0.13rc1 upwards).

here's the patch: https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=2378

i have been informed that edgy uses alsa-driver 1.0.12rc1, which doesn't contain that fix yet -- will it be backported?

cheers

This patch has been backported to both Edgy and Dapper weeks ago. Does the problem still persist??

i haven't tried edgy (don't intend to set it up before the final release), and on dapper i've got alsa-driver 1.0.13rc2 installed from the alsa project sources -- i don't know how i would check whether it works with the package that comes from the repositories (is there a way?). but i guess if the patch has been backported, everything's going to be alright...

I have a ACER Aspire 3102NWLMi and sound don't work in alsa mode, but work in OSS mode. In the first boot, the sound card work perfect with alsa... but after the first boot don't work with alsa. The gnome-volume-manager show OSS-mode (identify witch Realtek ALC883 (OSS mixer)), not show ALSA-mode anyway. The modules kernel snd-hda-intel was correct configure(modprobe snd-hda-intel)...
What do I do? (sorry by my poor english).

I'm running edgy on an Acer Aspire 5102WLMi. All the alsa bits seem to have been installed during setup, but gnome-sound-properties had everything set to OSS. Switching to alsa resulted in no sound. To get esd working, I had to replace libesd-alsa0 with libesd0 os that it would work with oss.

I am running an Acer Aspire 5050-5827 with the Realtek ALC883. I can confirm that an update to date installation of Edgy Eft does not produce any sound. I am going to attempt to use OSS but would prefer that Alsa work instead.

My Acer travelmate 3043 with Realtek ALC883 doesn't work with 7.04 final release

It worked well with 6.06 and 6.10
