Bug Description

Hardware:

Dell Inspiron 9300 with integrated Intel soundcard and PCMCIA Creative Audigy2 ZS Notebook sound card.

Step to reproduce:

Plug-in the soundcard and a mic in the multiple Analog/Digital input jack. Try to play with the Gnome ALSA mixer and/or aumix to get your microphone to work. Analyse that the input line isn't working. You can also try to record something from Audacity. Constat that it is just recording silence.

Version information:

Linux Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 2.6.20-15-generic
ALSA-base v1.0.14rc3
ALSA-utils v1.0.14rc2
aumix 2.8
AlsaMixer v1.0.14rc2

I also tried with the original ALSA from Feisty Fawn (v1.0.13-3) but I had the same issue (this is why I upgraded to v1.0.14rc3). Analog output works very well. I also used the asoundconf-gtk to set my default soundcard.

I can confirm this bug, on the same card. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 3200 with a SiS chipset and Realtek built-in audio. Eugene Gavrilov of the kX Project seems to have gotten line-in recording working on this particular card in his 3rd party drivers using knowledge from the ALSA project. Maybe he could be asked for input on this?

I've got the same problem with a Realtek ALC861 on a Toshiba A7. I got it somehow fixed by doing this:

1. disable "full duplex" of "artsd" (full duplex sound still works)

2. unload/load the driver. This is done by

a) stopping the sl-modem
b) stopping artsd
c) unloading the module
d) loading the module
e) starting sl-modem
f) starting artsd

I guess there is an easier way. I do also have

options snd-hda-intel model=auto

in my modprobe.d/alsa-base. With "position_fix=1" I do also get no sound from the mic.

We know. The issue here is that it is not working for us, with these drivers, or even drivers from the ALSA rsync repository.

Strangely enough, it stopped working after two days and I can not get it working again. As I have a WindowsXP partition on the same machine, maybe it depends on Windows settings some magic flags or crashing while the sound is active...

I am running Ubuntu 7.10 and I am also unable to capture any sound from the line-in/mic/Optical-in on my Audigy 2 ZS Notebook

Alsa drivers are properly selected. I can listen to music threw the sound card. It is also configured to be default the default sound card.

I am attempting to use IDJC and Audacity and both softwares are unable to capture any sound. (but they are able to output sound)

AlsaMixer v1.0.14

Leann,

The bug still happen under my Gusty. Now, the problem comes from the fact that I can't record anything even if I can hear my mic in my speakers.

Thanks for the update Felix. With Gutsy you may want to try installing the linux-backports-modules package to see if that helps.

Additionally, the Hardy Heron Alpha series was recently released which contains an updated version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/ . You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ .

We will keep this report open against the actively developed kernel but will be closing it against 2.6.20. Thanks.

After receiving this comment by email, I decided to try it out again since it had been months since I had done so.

I am pleased to announce that I was able to capture sound with the line-in and to record it using Audacity.

Good jobs guys. This was the only reason I was still using Windows. (was too broke for a new sound card)
