Binary package hint: gnome-main-menu
The gnome-main-menu package (that is, the slab) is currently being packaged without the control-center executable, which is pretty essential to the usability of the menu.
Looking at the package, I can only guess that this owes to the control-center crashing upon start, which is an entirely trivial thing to fix; back in July, when the slab was officially Hot New Stuff, the only thing necessary for making it work was changing line 142 from
appshelldata_new ("preferences.
to
appshelldata_new ("settings.menu", NULL, CONTROL_
(I'm not entirely sure how to attach patches on Malone, but this is minor.)
When so changed, the control-center stops crashing and works as expected, albeit in a somewhat awkward way, as the various .desktop files are not segregated as they would be ideally, sticking to the traditional Preferences/
