Bug Description

Binary package hint: gksu

I hope this helps to troubleshoot this issue. I am attempting to use Synaptic, my password is not recognized. I attempt to submit bugs when the graphical dialog comes up... my password is not recognized. The workaround... open a terminal 'sudo su' then open synaptic or use apport-bug to submit bug report. I used apport-bug to submit this report.

I am experiencing the same issue in Lubuntu 10.10 beta. Running gksu-properties and changing authentication mode to sudo fixes the problem for me. Why is this not default?

I also faced this problem.
My fresh install machine is not affected, but my upgraded machine from lucid is affected.

@James
Could you attach the content of /var/log/installer/media-info.
Just type $ cat /var/log/installer/media-info in your terminal.
I would know whether your system is fresh install or upgraded.
Thanks in advance.

@James
And as described in #3 comment, running gksu-properties and settting authentication mode to sudo will fix your issue?

I apologize, I have since done a backup and clean installation with 10.10...

To answer your question, when I originally posted the bug I did not
edit the preferences for the application in the menu. I dropped to a
shell and ran sudo synaptic, which had no issues. It appeared that
gksu was the culprit...

For those who may arrive here in looking for a solution:

the workaround is tu run:

>>gksu-properties

and then change "authentication mode" to "sudo".

A dirty fix ( what I did) was to edit the menu entry and change it from gksu
to gksudo... my change was merely for a couple GUI apps I use regularly.
Axe's solution seems more system wide and just as easy.
