Bug Description

Lubuntu Maverick 10.10 beta with all current updates.

When launching programs from the applications menu that use gksu for sudo privileges, invalid password is always returned regardless of the password being correct or not. If the exec line in the .desktop file is changed to use gksudo the program will authenticate and launch as expected. This can also be reproduced through the run dialog.

on running gksu-properties I found that "authentication mode" was set to "su". Once changed to "sudo" everything was back to normal. This was a fresh install of the Lubuntu 10.10 Beta iso with updates applied so perhaps something needs changed?

Yes, it's a know bug, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/ReleaseNotes/MaverickMeerkat/#Synaptic and gksu not working after minimal installation, and it's seems to be the same issue than bug 624095
