Bug Description

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 with the DVB driver installed and a PCTV 801se USB TV tuner. I used w-scan to generate a channels.conf but Me TV spits out

failed to find value for 'VSB_8'

when I try to start with the channels.conf file.

What version of Me TV do you have installed? As the default version in lucid
is quite old. To get the latest release (1.3.1) please visit launchpad
(there is a link to Me TV on the front page) there you will find the details
on how to add the development ppa, this gives you the most current released
version. Should that fail to resolve your issue please report back with
further details.

I upgraded my version of ME-TV to 1.3.2 and I still get the same error message using the channels.conf file generated by w-scan but yes, this version of ME-TV will scan for channels itself and it does actually work to show a tv stream with the PCTV 801 SE USB tv tuner under Ubuntu 10.04.

I selected the option to use a channels.conf file and it generated the "failed to find value for VSB_8" message as before.

Is the channels.conf file in UTF-8 format?

Hi Thomas, where did you get your channels.conf file from? About a year and a half ago Me TV was changed to accept 8VSB rather than VSB_8 based on some guys channels.conf file at the time. If you are saying that VSB_8 is now the correct value then I'm happy to change it. It would be great if I had a reference document.

        message:
changed line 56 in src/channels_conf_line.cc from VSB_8 to 8VSB on advice from Me-TV author

This was introduced into Me TV by a branch merge from a guy that was working on ATSC support.

I got my channels.conf file from running w-scan in a terminal. I got the code I used to run the scan from the w-scan wiki, where they say that this is what should be run in the US:

w_scan -fa -A1 -c US -X

This code gave me the channels.conf file I pasted above. I am only reporting that ME-TV says that it cannot find values for VSB_8 in the channels.conf file so generated.

Hi. Thanks for your reply two days ago. This bug is affecting me with me-tv-2.0.1. I try to import channels.conf and I get "Failed to find a value for '8VSB'. For reference, my channels.conf looks like:
Citytv EDMONTON:491028615:8VSB:33:36:2
CBC Edmonton HD:641028615:8VSB:49:53:3
CITV-DT:671028615:8VSB:49:52:1

Thanks!

Hi. You are quite correct, I no longer get an invalid parameter count! I am using Me TV 2.0.1, and right after giving it a channels.conf file and clicking on next the bottom of the main window reports Failed to find a value for '8VSB' (not VSB_8). I use scan, not w_scan. I got scan from dvb-apps using apt-get install dvb-apps. A comparison between the projects seems to be here:
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Frequency_scan#Comparison_of_DVB_frequency_scanning_commandline_utilities
I got a copy of w_scan (w_scan-20110306.tar.bz2), built it, and ran it with w_scan -f a -A 1 -c CA -o 7 > channels.conf
It gives the following output:

Citytv EDMONTON;(null):491000:M10:A:0:33:36=eng;36:0:0:2:0:0:0
CBC Edmonton HD;(null):641000:M10:A:0:49:53=eng,52=eng;52,53:0:0:3:0:0:0
CITV-DT;(null):671000:M10:A:0:49:52=eng,53=fre;52,53:0:0:1:0:0:0

and *now* me-tv-client (2.0.1) gives an invalid parameter count when I try to the (above) channels.conf file.

With w_scan, use the -X parameter.

What distro are you using? I think at some point things switched from 8VSB to VSB_8. There are 2 things that we can do here,

* You can simply change that value from 8VSB to VSB_8 in the channels.conf
* I can just allow it to accept both values but you'll have to wait for a release to see that.

Hi. Sorry for the delayed reply. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10. I have extra libraries installed (like Boost), and the only thing thats really different is I'm running a very fresh kernel (todays flavor is 2.6.39-rc3). I will modify my channels.conf and try VSB_8.
