Hi. You are quite correct, I no longer get an invalid parameter count! I am using Me TV 2.0.1, and right after giving it a channels.conf file and clicking on next the bottom of the main window reports Failed to find a value for '8VSB' (not VSB_8). I use scan, not w_scan. I got scan from dvb-apps using apt-get install dvb-apps. A comparison between the projects seems to be here:
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Frequency_scan#Comparison_of_DVB_frequency_scanning_commandline_utilities
I got a copy of w_scan (w_scan-20110306.tar.bz2), built it, and ran it with w_scan -f a -A 1 -c CA -o 7 > channels.conf
It gives the following output:

Citytv EDMONTON;(null):491000:M10:A:0:33:36=eng;36:0:0:2:0:0:0
CBC Edmonton HD;(null):641000:M10:A:0:49:53=eng,52=eng;52,53:0:0:3:0:0:0
CITV-DT;(null):671000:M10:A:0:49:52=eng,53=fre;52,53:0:0:1:0:0:0

and *now* me-tv-client (2.0.1) gives an invalid parameter count when I try to the (above) channels.conf file.
