I'm not great too great at this, I usually do better when I'm more passionate about it, maybe if you give me a bit of feedback, i can change it around, make it look better?
Thanks for the submission.
IMHO this looks very 90's and clashes with the ancient name "Pithos"
Keep them coming :)

I think the Faenza icon is the classiest and would look good with a
dark or light theme.

I think the icon should relate to the name and not clash with it. But
having a pithos in it shouldn't be a requirement.
Thank you for your submission.

Waqas Qamar: wow! if you add a vase that would be great! realy! because now there is only nice but I surely would not recognize what a program is this...
For mine, I got inspiration from the official Pandora logo guidelines (www.pandora.com/Pandora_Identity_Standards_2009.pdf). I used colors from the Pandora palette (#336699 and #666666), as well as fonts from the same font family used in the official Pandora logo (Mrs Eaves). I added another color, #8ab4de, to the palette, and instead of using Mrs Eaves Small Caps for the logo text, I used Mrs Eaves Thin Italic, so that the logo would be reminiscent of the Pandora logo, but not flat-out ripping it off.
I thought about the origin of the phrase "Pandora's box" and decided to use a pithos (box) with light and music coming out of it, symbolising the opening of the box and all.
If you read about the origin of the name of the app you will realize
that Pithos does not mean box but actually this name was chosen
exactly because it was an error in translation.

@39 I'm guessing Pandora's name comes from the fact that it plays random songs (kind of like Pandora's box?.) Pandora's box was originally a pithos, not a box. That's probably why the programme's name is Pithos.
This is a very early preview, there's still a lot of work left. The colors are a bit awful, and it needs a few more effects.
If you guys like it, I'll finish the icon, and work on the other sizes.
Sorry to take so long to take a look at these. There are a bunch of really cool ideas in here.
One thing to consider is that the most-often-seen version of the Pithos icon is the 16x16 version in the taskbar. Many of these designs are great when they're large, but may be too detailed to work when scaled down.
It's great that so many folks have contributed ideas, but nearly every one posted is unsuitable for use as an icon. Before you submit anything, you need to scale it down to 32x32 and 16x16 and see how they look. Tiny details like handles on a vase or gradients or thin text will disappear at best, or look bad at worst. In point of fact, most icons that end up in actual use require tweaking by hand for each size they're scaled to--they aren't just automatically resized by software from the SVG master.
I actually think the current icon is very good: it's unique and has decent contrast and looks good at small sizes. Perhaps the colors could be adjusted a little--it's unusual for the highlights to be white and the main color to be black/dark-gray--but I think the basic layout is fine.
For anyone looking at this bug, there are two icons by my favorite icon artist Paul Davey (http:// mattahan. deviantart. com/) that are suitable:
