Bug Description

Binary package hint: alsa-utils

Hi,

in Kubuntu 6.06 looks like that /var/lib/alsa/asound.state is resetted at every boot.
To reproduce:
- change some values using alsamixer
- save them: sudo alsactl store
- look at the content of /var/lib/alsa/asound.state to see your changes
- rebbot
- look at the content of /var/lib/alsa/asound.state to see your changes DISAPPEARED

Hope I was clear, please ask for more info if you need them.

Bye
Piero

Hello!

I installed Kubuntu 6.10 some days ago and experience that problem, too.

Is this symptom reproducible in Ubuntu or Xubuntu?

I noticed there is no link to /etc/init.d/alsa-utils in /etc/rc[2,3,5].d/. After adding one, alsactl store / alsactl restore is called correctly upon shutdown / startup.

Though this doesn't solve the problem.

Any idea where to look further?

Oh, I noticed alsa-utils is called via /etc/udev/rules.d/85-alsa.rules...

Hi there,

I tried a 'ls -ltr' of /var/lib/alsa and it looks like the file there is an old one: so there is a script that copy/create/do something on that file if you modify it.

piero@ape:~$ ls -ltr /var/lib/alsa/
totale 8
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7890 2006-10-19 19:03 asound.state

My file is dated THU Oct, 19 but today is MON Oct, 23 and I switched off the PC during the week-end.

Hope this help

Piero

Silentb, did you dist-upgrade to edgy or clean install it?

Hi Silentb,

when I shutdown I can see the alsa "daemon" log saying it is stopping: can you see it?

Hi Andrew, all,

on my Kubuntu 6.10 everything is working as expected: the bug report was about Kubuntu 6.06.
At the moment I do not have the possibility to test a Feisty install... sorry not to be able to help you here.

Great. Looks like with Piero's Edgy fix and Scott's fix in Feisty, this bug should be closed now. I guess if it's a problem anymore just let us know.
