Dell Latitude L400 sound muted on every start

Bug Description

Currently every time I start the laptop, Kmix says it's muted. If I unmute manually, sound works as expected.

IIRC, when I had Dapper on this laptop it did not do that. This is a fresh install on a new hard drive and not an upgrade from Dapper.

And the Konsole doesn't come back until I hit ctrl c. Still no sound.

Upon further review, it appears the problem is that Kmix resets itself to muted for every restart. I suspect this is a Kmix (kdemultimedia) issue and not in the sound system.

Hmm... I am very blind :)

I don't think I can do much more to help this bug, so if someone who knows more about KDE could take over, I'd be grateful.

From what I can tell, I tend to agree. Thanks.

The interesting thing that I found out last night is that I really was having a complete sound failure before. I have 2 L400s and the second had not be fired up since December. When I powered it up last night, I got a complete sound failure (with some kind of overload warning). After I downloaded updates, it was the same as the one we were working on, so one of the changes between 30 Dec and yesterday straightened out the basic problem and what's left is I have 61256.
