I tried a 'ls -ltr' of /var/lib/alsa and it looks like the file there is an old one: so there is a script that copy/create/do something on that file if you modify it.
piero@ape:~$ ls -ltr /var/lib/alsa/
totale 8
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7890 2006-10-19 19:03 asound.state
My file is dated THU Oct, 19 but today is MON Oct, 23 and I switched off the PC during the week-end.
