Bug Description

When I run Liferea I get some swedish translations in the header of the item pane. See attached screenshot. I've not installed any swedish translations, just the locale stuff.

I have changed the 'Language for menus and windows' in System->Pref->Language Support to only list 'English' in black at the top, previously it listed 'Svenska' 'Svenska (Sverige)' 'English' and 'English (UK)' in black even though no swedish translations has been installed. This did not solve the problem.

Hi Einar,

Thanks for reporting this bug. I've got a few questions:

* Could you give us the output of the 'locale' command on the terminal?

* What do you exactly mean with "no swedish translations has been installed" and "I've not installed any swedish translations, just the locale stuff"? What's the "locale stuff"?

Please try to be more detailed, as it will make it a lot easier to debug and fix the bug.

Thanks!

No problem, I'll try to be more clear and detailed.

I am a resident of Sweden and I have configured Ubuntu to show dates and numbers according to the Swedish locale. But I prefer to have the GUI in English and therefore I have avoided installing any Swedish translations (as far as i know). I have done all the configuring of language and locale configuration with the System->Administration->Language Support tool.

I've attached screens of my current settings, one for each tab of the Language & Text window. I've also attached a picture of my previous configuration with Swedish at the top of the list(marked "before"). That's how it looked when I started investigating this. As far as I could tell by looking in the Install / Remove Language dialogue there wasn't any Swedish translations installed even though it was at the top of the list.

Hope this is clear enough, don't hesitate to ask if it's not.

Einar,

just a comment for clarification:
I think you might have installed Ubuntu with Swedish language settings
and then changed settings in language-selector. If you have 'Swedish' as
an item in the Language and also Text tabs, then the Swedish
language-packs (language-pack-sv-base) must have been installed.
Otherwise those languages wouldn't be available in those lists. The
locale and language entries for Swedish are only being generated when
the language-pack-sv-base package is installed (provided you didn't mess
with the locale setting on the console ;) ). If you remove them, you
won't be able to set any of the Language and Text settings to Swedish.
(Technically it's not really necessary that the language-packs are
present to generate the locales, but that's how things currently work.)

So, you might have hit a bug in your application, that it ignores the
LANGUAGE environment variable. There is already a similar bug report for
the same issue in firefox. I think openoffice.org is also affected.

Hope this helps.

Einar, could you test with Maverick if this bug still occurs?
