Notification area icons overlap each other, in incorrect order

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Bit hard to describe so a screenshot is attached.

Basically there are two issues - icons overlapping each other, causing weird glitches, and the icons being out of order (the power icon should be far right). In one overlapping case the power button (for some reason in the middle of the icons) is nearly unclickable as it's been overlapped by a glitch of the me-menu item.

I think I may be seeing the same bug in Ubuntu 10.04, see my screenshot

This seems to be fixed recently. After an update the power management icon reappeared and then it was just an issue of unlocking each set of icons, moving them and re-locking. That's the kind of thing that happened with my dock though kaefert.

Thanks for the note. I found this other bug-report here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/574978 which states that you can use "killall gnome-panel" to reload the panels which makes them right again. Since I only saw this bug 2 or 3 times yet, this is a sufficient workaround for me. I am currently updating and I will post again if the bug shows again in the future.

As of June 22, I am experiencing a bug that seems to essentially be the same as this.

My applet icons in the top right of my Gnome panel are offered in a new random order with each boot. There are sometimes gaps, sometimes overlaps, and sometimes certain applet icons don't appear at all.

Most significantly, the power off icon is sometimes entirely missing or unclickable.

I have attached a screen shot showing the missing power.

Lastly, I don't know if this is a bug or merely a limitation, but I have some icons, such as Dropbox and Google Desktop, that I want to move out of the furthest right position, but they seem to be unmovable. I want the power off icon to always be the rightmost icon, but that does not seem to be possible.

In any case, first I want to ensure that I am getting all my icons to reliably appear and not overlap. Then I would like to be able to control their position.

Thank you for your time and efforts.

Now that you remember me of that bug report, yes i've seen it again 2
or 3 times after the update Ross talked about. But with me its only
visibility issues, I don't have any problems rearanging the icons,
however, i don't do that very often. If that bug hits, I only run
"killall gnome-panel" to restart the panels and everything is alright
again.

Same issue here, about every half a dozen boots. See screenshot for the latest spontaneous arrangement & chaos.
