Bug Description
Binary package hint: update-manager
I am using Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala.
When I attempt to run update-manager the following message is displayed:
"Could not initialize the package information
An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Could not open file /var/lib/

Can you please attach the files in /var/log/ dist-upgrade ? This will help us diagnose the problem.
Can you also please run: dpkg/status ?
$ ls -l /var/lib/
Do you use anything special like selinux?
