The keyboard indicator applet has been deprecated in favour of an indicator in the notification area, which displays automatically when you configure multiple keyboard layouts

In this case I could not move the Keyboard indicator to another panel. It's very bad decision. Please restore Keyboard indicator applet, or how I can restore it?

The keyboard indicator applet was removed upstream. We're not adding it back to our gnome-applets package, as it duplicates functionality already present in the notification area icon and the codebase is obsolete and deprecated

What should I do if I don't need this indicator and have only one language?
How do I remove this indicator from there?

OMG, this is very bad. There are must be some settings where you can choose what icons to show/hide in the notification area.

Why is it bad? It was common before for users to request that the status indicator should appear automatically when they configure multiple layouts, something that was not possible with the obsolete applet design

Because I could remove language applet before or move it to another place
and now I can't do this. There isn't only me with such look to this issue
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1423527
The same issue with volume applet which is gone and volume applet was moved
to indicator area with additional icon. But I need the volume applet only.
It was more configurable in 9.10 and now it's horrible.
Why did you remove them? They do not disturb anyone.
I also reported these bugs to gnome developers to know what they think about
this.

One more issue with rhythmbox try icon behaviour
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/525875 because
someone doesn't know how to use right mouse button, and this is ubuntu only
behaviour.

You don't want fix any of these issues and it's very sad.

I think there are will be a lot of users with the same problem after 10.04
release.

I have multiple keyboard layouts setup all the time but I'm only occasionally switching between them for example. There is no reason for me to have the layout switcher cluttering up precious panel space. I've been desperate enough to track down and look through the source code in gnome-settings-daemon for a toggle, but the logic seems pretty hard-coded. There really needs to be a way to hide the layout switcher, at least with a gconf key.

there is a wishlist request on gnome-settings-daemon to have it optional too

As a result you will have the same functionality without possibility to move
language indicator to top/bottom panel. For example my notification area
locates on the bottom panel but language indicator locates on the top panel.
I do not see any advantage and I don't know why gnome developers did this.
Why can't you do an optional deb package for this?

Because we already have enough to do without having to maintain separate packages of software which is unmaintained by anybody else

One problem with it being a notification area icon is that it's less usable on dual monitor setups.
You could have a separate layout indicator applet on every monitor, but have 2 notification areas just don't work.
[This is a long know bug #128735, which is hard to solve due to the design of notification area.]

The new Indicator Applet does works well when instantiated twice, so I can see and adjust volume & power on both monitors. It'd be sweet if the keyboard layout management could be migrated to the new indicator framework as well...

I already have the nice solution to show keyboard layout - gxneur (which also automatically switches layout for me) - and I would be happy to get rid of duplicate indicator in notification area. For me it is the very keyboard indicator that "duplicates functionality" and is "obsolete" and "deprecated"...
