Bug Description

I received a message that Astrid lost data and when I looked, all my tasks were gone. I did not get the full message. I have power cycled my Droid and still no data. This seems to be a pretty common bug right now! I am using Astrid 125 and I do not sync my data.

When did you receive the message? From the application. Could you explain
the circumstances under which this happened. This is a real concern to us
and we want to make sure that this doesn't happen for other users.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I just turned on astrid and all my tasks are gone, some 300 tasks, all gone, this is devastating. Any thoughts on how I could recover them? I didn't get a message or have any problems leading up to this.

Again this is a huge concern to us. We are trying to figure out how to
reproduce this. If anyone experiences this please send us a log right away.

I don't know how to pull a log to send you, I will provide you with whatever I can if you explain how to get what you want off the phone.

To pull logs you should install logcat from the market. You can then
download logs and send them to us. It is most helpful if they come
immediately after the issue occurred.

Thanks for helping us figure this out.

When I turned on my phone in the morning, all of my Astrid data was gone. It was there last night and I was able to work on the tasks. I have uploaded every update upon notification, but when I check the version number it says 125. I have an android log from this morning, but I don't know how to attach it. Is there any way to recover my data?

Same problem. All data seems to be lost. I did not use the phone for a few hours and when I unlocked the screen after that the widget did not show any data nor the full astrid. I got a Motorola Milestone (known as Droid in the US) with Android 2.0.1. I had the same problem a few weeks before. Back then new tasks that I created somehow got tagged with the tags that I had given to the lost tasks.
I tried installing aLogcat, but it does only show entries of today and the data loss has happened some days before.

This is breaking my heart!

We are working on a backup solution that will run in the background and
mitigate some of this. But any input on this would be super helpful. I think
this is only effecting a small number of users but that is
no conciliation if that user is you!

Jon it happened to me again, all my tasks were lost yesterday. I did have it synched with RTM so I was able to recover all my tasks. I pulled a log as soon as I noticed they were gone. I have attached the log, hopefully this helps.

This is sickening. I just lost all my data this morning on my Droid phone. Has this awful problem been fixed? Very upset to read this problem exists and has not been fixed. Is there a way to recuperate my tasks. I do not have a RTM account.

First of all we agree this sucks. We are trying are hardest to address this
and have done a number of things to try and fix it for people. A couple
things to note:

1) From our estimates this is happening to something like .003% of users.
Still if it happens to you this is way too high (we want to hit 0!) but
errors like this are difficult for us to reproduce. As far as we can tell
people are getting a corrupted database but it is difficult for us to figure
out how. A simultaneous write to the database could be the problem but we
are having trouble reproducing this. Any other suggestions other users have
would be greatly welcomed. Our code is open-source so you can see if you can
figure out what might be happening.

2) We have implemented an automatic daily backup to your SD card since
version 2.13. This doesn't address the issue directly but provides a
recovery mechanism if it does occur. If you have lost your tasks you should
be able to restore tasks from your sd card and only loose a days worth of
new tasks.

3) Yes remember the milk users can restore tasks from the online database.
This can provide an additional backup mechanism even if you don't use
Remember the milk.

Any other input/feedback is welcome. Finally we are shortly leaving
launchpad.net/astrid and are instead going to be using github. Please visit
www.weloveastrid.com for details.
