Bug Description

When selecting certain export options in version 1.1, I'm not allowed to export because libmp3lame is not installed, but Synaptic lists the package libmp3lame0 as installed. I have successfully exported under this options (avi (mp4), ntsc dv, high quality) in version 1.0. Thanks

Ubuntu 9.10
Openshot 1.1 installed from PPA

+ Ubuntu 9.04 64bits
OpenShot 1.1 installed from the .deb dowloaded from the official website.

You probably need to UPDATE libmp3lame. I would google it.

Hello,
I'm on Ubuntu 9.04 and using OpenShot 1.1. I have the same problem, and the install of the unstripped version of libavformat didn't solve it.

libmp3lame0 version 3.98
libavformat-unstripped-52 version "3:0.svn20090303-1ubuntu2+unstripped1"

I think the problem might be related to the DEB installers, and our
dependencies DEB installers. I do not think the dependencies listed on the
OpenShot download page contain libmp3lame, which would explain the problem.
In theory, on Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04, my previous suggestion would work just
fine. However, since you used the DEB installer, it is unaffected by
installing those packages. I'm not sure the best solution to this.

Option 1) I could update all of the DEB installers (which is generally a
nightmare)
Option 2) You could install ffmpeg, libmp3lame, mlt, etc.... yourself, which
can also be a nightmare
Option 3) You can upgrade to a newer version of Ubuntu

So... it looks like there is no simple fix for this (as far as I can tell).
=( I'll keep thinking about it though.

Thanks,
-Jonathan

OK. I would choose the first option. |-D

Seriously, I'd rather that you update the DEB installers, BUT I can wait. Don't lose your head for that.

this affects me. i think the problem comes for the fact OpenShot not recognisinsg libmp3lame0 as a variant of libmp3lame.

And the problem is still in Ubuntu 10.04.

Yes, installing libavformat-extra is the solution. Can't this be added as a dependency when installing openshot? Without it there is not much you can export to.

I close this bug because the user can see if the codec mp3 is available in the Preferences 2nde section, who list all the codec audio and video and the format available/used in/by Openshot.

Yes, but how is the user supposed to know this? I'm on Natty now, and on the export window I get "You are missing libmp3lame". There is a read more link but it's broken. If libavformat-extra is not listed as a dependency, at least it should be made available for install from the export window itself, pretty much how totem or other apps download the necessary pckgs if you allow them.

And even if this can't be done, the message should explicitly say "Install libavformat-extra".

It is why I am working on a dependencies tool which will provide to the user more information on the package installed or not obligatory or not. This will complete the previous module.
But , effectively, I wasn't plan to put this module about ffmpeg. Just ffmpeg. :) So, I will include them more than ffmpeg. :)
