Bug Description

I am running Lucid, and only the first user's menu can change when I am installing/removing software, but other user's menus in the system are always kept unchanged like the state after installation. If you need any extra information, please let me know.

My system is x86_64 with 2.6.32-12-generic default kernel from the archive.

Reassigning this to the gnome-applets package since that's where the main menu resides.

Yes, it is reproducible which I've done three times of lucid
installation and every time this happens, but I am not sure what
changes I did caused such a problem. What should I do to make the
problem more clear? Need I do a new installation and take down
everything I've changed?

Thanks,
Aron

Here is my package list generated by `dpkg -l' here. apart from installing/removing packages, I just changed some settings in xorg.conf for my nvidia graphic card.

what happens every time your bug description is not clear, could you describe what you do, what you would want to happen and what you get?

Okay, now I am trying to make it clear.

I just install Lucid with daily-live cd and everything works at that time, then install/remove software to fit my own requirement, I don't know how many software I've installed/removed, but the final package list in my system is attached before. Then I switch to another user's account, the menu aren't changed at all, that is to say even I've removed an application, its menu item is still there, or I've installed some new applications, their menu items aren't appeared after installation. The menu in other user's account (I mean except the orignal one that can use sudo) is freezed to be like the very initial status that the system has been installed.

The issue is a locale .utf8 against .UTF-8 one, assigning to pitti who will fix that one

Just a note to add that this affects translated desktop entries as well. After a quick chat with seb128 and pitti on #ubuntu-desktop, I'm adding the comment here:

* There was a bug in glib that prevented X-GNOME-FullName translations to be loaded in desktop entries
* The bug was fixed during the Lucid Platform sprint
* On Lucid upgrades or installations done prior to the fix, the following needs to be run, otherwise translations are not loaded for the desktop entries using X-GNOME-FullName:
  sudo rm /usr/share/applications/desktop*cache
  gnome-panel --replace
* Apparently the cache does not have the translated value there for X-GNOME-FullName

I'm also adding an ubuntu-translations task to keep an eye on it in case translators or users with a non-English US desktop have questions.
