Bug Description

Using an HP Pavilion dv7 with an HP xb4 Notebook Media Docking Station. When the notebook is connected to the docking station via the expansion cable, sound is not routed through the docking station but continues to play through the notebook speakers.

All other functionality of the dock appears to work -- power, network, USB, etc. are transferred. Only audio is not.

Same issue when running under lucid. I apport-collected from lucid to this bug.

Not sure if it is related or not, but there are several other sound issues with this system:
* plugging in headphones does not mute the main speakers
* the sound is very 'noisy' -- moving a window across the screen causes a loud interference through the speakers

Hi Ronald,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 511624

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Jeremy,

I just installed 10.04 via Wubi on an HP DV7 with the xb4 media docking station and am having the exact same issue w/ sound not being routed to external speakers that are connected via the dock. Do you still want apport info? If so, I can follow your instructions from 4/25, but anything beyond that will probably require in-depth instructions since I'm a complete newb. (I've been running ubuntu for a total of 30 mins so far.)

Thanks.

Jeremy,

It's been an issue with all the dailies and with the final 10.04 kernel as well. I have not tried with the upstream kernel yet but will try to do so this week.

I'm not sure if it's related but I also seem to get a lot of noise through the speakers that sounds like RFI... e.g. cranking up a process that works the CPU causes noticeable noise. Dragging a window across the screen with the volume turned up does as well. So it seems like the speakers are getting power at least.

10.04 kernel apport-collect data to follow.
