It's been an issue with all the dailies and with the final 10.04 kernel as well. I have not tried with the upstream kernel yet but will try to do so this week.
I'm not sure if it's related but I also seem to get a lot of noise through the speakers that sounds like RFI... e.g. cranking up a process that works the CPU causes noticeable noise. Dragging a window across the screen with the volume turned up does as well. So it seems like the speakers are getting power at least.
