gtksourceview does not appear to have been officially deprecated. However, gtksourceview2 seems to be under more active development, has a cleaner API, and it would be potentially future proofing to upgrade now.

The attached bzr branch contains the work done by perriman to fix this bug, done purely for ease of merging.

The python-gtksourceview package says:
"Description: Python bindings for the GtkSourceView 1.x library
This package contains a module that allows to use the GtkSourceView
 widget in Python applications.
 .
This is deprecated in favor of GtkSourceView 2, so this module should
not be used in newly written applications."

I have updated th branch by Jeff Craig and simplified language guessing. As a side effect the module gnome.vfs is not needed anymore. see bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/acire/+bug/506589
