Bug Description
Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs
From near the end of https:/
"Finally, double check the permissions on the authorized_keys file, only the authenticated user should have read and write permissions. If the permissions are not correct change them by:
chmod 644 .ssh/authorized
You should now be able to SSH to the host without being prompted for a password."
It should be "chmod 640 ..." to match the prose description.

Steve, thanks for your report. I feel that 600 is better for permissions on this file as it is more secure, and after discussion, I decided to go with 600 instead of 640 (both work). The community wiki as well as other experienced users in OpenSSH also suggest 600. Fix committed to Lucid development branch, rev. 396.
