Bug Description

I get to the screen where I can choose between letting the installer take care of the formatting or manually edit it myself. Bottom left corner says "Step 5 of 6".
I tick off the option for manual editing, and press "Forward".
A "greyed out" (disabled) gparted (?) interface shows up in the windows, and a loading bar briefly shows itself, saying "Scanning all devices", and then... nothing. A pretty much blank window, where the only text is in the bottom left corner stating something about reserving at least 2gigs of space for the root partition. Pressing <enter> on the "Forward" button crashes the installer.

This is a similar, but not identical to bug #47002. He gets a disabled gparted interface and a spinning progress bar, whereas I end up with a blank screen. But again, it might be that when he means "freezes" he actually means this blank screen. But the installer is still responsive, so I don't think it qualifies for a "freeze" condition.

ps. Can someone please remove the comments where I posted the full output? I could not find an attach option at the time...

Thanks for your report. Due to some reliability problems with GRUB and XFS, you need to use a non-XFS root filesystem or create a non-XFS /boot filesystem. The fact that the partitioner doesn't warn you about this up-front is also bug 47848, and is fixed in dapper-updates.

John is correct that this has been fixed, but incorrect about where it was fixed. Specifically, this is in fact gparted bug 50909.

John, please only mark bugs as duplicates that exactly match the patterns laid down by DebuggingUbiquity. I need to be spending time on things other than double-checking the actions of bug triagers, if possible. If you get creative then that makes things harder. :)
