Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

When trying Dapper RC desktop CD, it freezes after I select to manually partition the hard disk. The gparted interface gets loaded (looking disabled) and the progress bar keeps spinning until it totally freezes (no mouse or keyboard input possible).

I tried to burn several CDs but to the same effect. The bug was not present when I tried Flight CD 6.

Same happened to me just now with the final release version. I was able to install the release candidate a week ago on the same hardware (and the same partitions) The system is totally frozen, so there isn't much I can add to this bug report.

interestingly I hard-rebooted my laptop, used the same Live CD, and this time it worked. So at least in my case it was a transient problem that had nothing to do with the install media

As above, I get to the screen where I can choose between letting the installer take care of the formatting or manually edit it myself. When I press the next button a loading bar briefly shows itself, saying something about it preparing, and then... nothing. A pretty much blank windows, where the only text is in the bottom left corner stating something about reserving at least 2gigs of space for the partition. The screen showing is the 5th out of 6.
After pressing the "Back" and "Forward" buttons a few times, the installer crashes.

The installercd is the normal x86 one, albeit the cpu is x86-64 (shouldn't matter though). It might be the fancy disk setup that trips the process up. 4 SATA disks, partitioned to use RAID0+LVM and RAID5 (linuxraid). I can post the logs, but there is no "attach" button on this comment system so...

It sounds like gparted crashed, and so this problem should no longer exist with the introduction of the new advanced partitioner in Feisty.
