Bug Description

Binary package hint: espeak

Espeak is saying "zEktsIC" instead of "zECtsIC" for 60 and "d@-*aItsIC" instead of "d@-*aIsIC" for 30, which is a little off-putting. This is easy to fix (or at least I assume that there are no side-effects); the patch is included here.

Well, I see that there is a lot more to do, so I have completely worked over the de_list file. I must admit that my interpretation of the notation includes some guesswork, but I am sure that it is much better now than before at any rate.

It seems I was editing an old version … Here goes the (improved) patch for 1.41.01.

The current version is eSpeak 1.42,at:

The numbers '30'and '60' were already corrected in this version.

Yes, there are probably many errors with eSpeak's German pronunciation. Compound words cause some problems.

Please check the pronunciations with eSpeak 1.42. It contains many corrections since 1.40.

Sometimes a correction is best made in de_rules rather than de_list, if it affects more than just one word.
Email me a list of words which are wrongly pronounced, together with their correct pronunciation.

Hendrik,

Thanks for the patches - as Jonathan says, could you create an updated patch against the latest release (available from http://sourceforge.net/projects/espeak/) and then open a bug there?

I am marking this bug confirmed. There is enough information, including a patch and comments from upstream to all the developers to begin working to resolve this issue.

The original bug has long since been fixed in Ubuntu versions of eSpeak.

If there are further errors in German pronunciation, please email me directly.
Usually I can make fixes in the eSpeak development version immediately.
