Bug Description

If I open, say, 4 sessions of Matlab and continually update a resulting figure window (using drawnow) xorg eats up all my memory (4GB) - it also uses 100% of one of my CPUs.

This results in the screen messing up - vertical coloured lines, traces of windows left behind when moved around.

Fixed by logout/in but definitely not ideal solution...

Agreed, this is really far from ideal.

Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to debug this issue without additional information. Please attach the following information to this bug report:

- /etc/X11/xorg.conf
- /var/log/Xorg.0.log
- output of "ps auwwwx", when your X process is already using a reasonable amount of memory
- output of /proc/<pid>/maps
- output of '/bin/ls -l /proc/<pid>/fd/'

where <pid> is the process of the running X. (this can be obtained via "ps auwx | grep X")

Thank you in advance for the feedback!

Thanks, Rodrigo.

When my machine takes a break from computations, I'll recreate the crash -
and try to send you the relevant data.

Running: x86_64 dapper, with the latest nvidia driver (9746).

Xorg consistently consumes memory at the rate of about 300MB per day. My current uptime is a little less than 7 days, and xorg is currently sitting at 2.2GB.

I use this machine a lot (~10 hours per day, for work; this is my main desktop machine), but ran Mandriva 2006 64-bit for about 8 months, and xorg almost always was in the ~300MB range.

I am not used to having to restart the X server every couple of weeks (or less; if I want to run a memory-intensive program, I have to restart the X server beforehand, to clear out the leaked memory).
