Bug Description

When I use internet with my acer timeline 3810tz which has atheros 9k wireless module, the wireless hangs always after using sometime like 20 min or more. Then the wireless module stopped and no respose.
THe following is dmesg:

I suffer this same bug. Also KK 9.10 Release Candidate

When connection hangs, sudo rmmod and sudo modprobe ath9k, they both fail. The only way to get another 10-20 minutes of connection with

03:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)

on my Acer Aspire 5738ZG is rebooting the system.

Similar problem on Acer 5810TZ (with AR928X), wireless was fine on 9.04, but on 9.10 it would disconnect after a few minutes and refuse to reconnect, giving the security password dialog. After suspend it would work for a few more minutes.

I installed the wireless backports and the connection works longer but then it won't work at all after standby.

I am also affected. How can I help to debug this?

I believe https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/509701 is a dup of this ticket.

Download full text (5.7 KiB)

Use wicd instead of network-manager. It will work.

Got about the same problem with the Atheros 928 (on Acer Extensa 5230). The problem started in Karmic: after about 1 minute signalstrength drops with 20 dB. I use WICD.
I installed the 2.6.31.17 generic-pae kernel (instead of the e 2.6.31.17 generic), and the problem was solved.
It has returned with the update to the new kernel: the 2.6.31.19 generic and the 2.6.31.19 generic-pae kernel both show the same problem. So I´m still on the 17-pae version.
The Ubuntu team seems to be aware of the problem, and I read (a couple of months ago) on the net that it would be solved in the near future. So I´m quite disappointed that in both new kernels it has not been solved.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 452745

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report.
