This bug was fixed in the package compiz - 1:0.8.4-0ubuntu1

---------------
compiz (1:0.8.4-0ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * new upstream release: (LP: #451773)
    - cannot resize window taller than screen (LP: #221698)
    - moving a "always on visible workspace" window to another workspace
      makes it inaccessible (LP: #290079)
    - enabling "always on visible workspace" for window on another
      workspace does not bring to current workspace (LP: #372626)
    - screenshot plugin gets confused by screenshot02.png.sig file (LP: #382969)
    - window moves when closed (LP: #444836)
    - translation updates
  * debian/compiz-gnome.install:
    - don't install the gconf plugin at all, it just causes problems with
      the ccp plugin (LP: #439287)
  * debian/watch:
    - updated for new release website

While this fixed one issue it brought back one that was previously fixed when the windows juped up when closed. When a window gets created its position is shifted down from where it should be. I notice this especially when using skype, I have it aligned with the right side of the screen maximized vertically. When I boot up and skype opens the window it's about 1 title bar from my top panel and now I have to reposition it every time.

@Kendrick: a possibly-related issue is when you use the "Put window" plugin with the "Window centre" option on. If you try to put the centre of the window in the centre of the screen it gets put slightly above it; this is especially noticeable for tall windows, or if you have another window not affected by the window decorator (like chromium-browser) to compare with. It seems to me that the common cause of these problems is that compiz is considering window decorations in some of its measurements but not in others. It should be possible to work around the skype issue by adding an entry to the "Windows with fixed position" list in the "Place windows" plugin with "class=Skype.real" ,"0", "48" and unticked as the parameters (just tried it).

Thanks pablomme. The workaround I am using is title=username - Skype (Beta) with x = 1019 and y = 43. I have a 1280x800 screen.

Is there a way to edit comments? I switched to title so the skype options window doesn't spawn off screen.
