Bug Description

Both are inactive. Mouse cursor does not move. The netbook does recognize
external USB devices in this mode. Reboot sometimes clears the condition,
once rebooting into XP and restarting from there cleared the problem.

In Jaunty 9.04.

Can confirm the bug. You can also make this happens by suspend some times, and wake it up with the screen still closed. Then mousepad and keyboard are dead until reboot. But you can still connect an external USB keyboard and continue, that works.

If you need some more debug, please just let me know. Got this little beauty yesterday.

I can confirm this too. I am under the impression that this issue arises more often when booting with the lid closed and/or when being disconnected from the power-supply.
Maybe this syslog can help us find the problem?

My colleague also confirm that it doesn't recognise when the lid is closed, ie. no hybernation or standby.

I am getting the keyboard and trackpad no response issue after disconnecting the Ethernet cable. This has happened twice, and both times I had to reboot. I will confirm that external USB mouse and/or keyboard work.

This issue now started happening (apparently) randomly. If I use the touchpad just after the mouse cursor appears then I can prevent the issue; I successfully used this technique twice in a row on two cold restarts (complete shutdown and then restart). I am using a USB mouse now, just in case.

I think this is the most unlogic random bug I had ever in linux. It appears 1/month now. Sometime I use a "mobile internet USB dongle", thats the only thing that changes to my setup time to time.

Please give me a hint if anybody knows how to intense debug this issue and I will give it a try.

HP 2140 working fine. Using Linux 2.6.32-22.

HP BIOS is 1.29

Kenjie.-San (darthkenjie) wrote :

Their is no HP BIOS version 1.29! On my HP is the latest firmware F.04 (19 Jun 2009), so that is not the point.

i have updated the hole system and it worked (for a longer period of time).
i made more then 20 reboots (cold & warm) without this symptomes.

I thought it was fixed by an update but it occured a few minutes ago.
So it can happen and maybe not as often as on other laptops..

So, I'm actually on F.03 (the 1.29 is shown in the upper right-hand corner while in BIOS settings).
Just wondered if different BIOS/Firmware made any difference to how persistent the problem was for you.

You are not the reporter of this problem report. It is much easier to mark a bug as a duplicate of another than to move your comments and attachments to a new bug.

Subsequently, we recommend that you file a new bug report using "apport-bug" and make a comment in this bug about the one you file.

Do you really want to proceed?
