Thank you for your bug report, can you mount it using gnome-mount -v -b -d device?

It didn't work, I got the following message:

"logiudicev@logiudicev-laptop:~$ gnome-mount -v -b -d device
gnome-mount 0.8
** Message: Given device 'device' is not a volume or a drive.
logiudicev@logiudicev-laptop:~$ gnome-mount -v -b -d device"

Thank you for your help

"device" is supposed to be your device, ie /dev/sd<n> or similar, not the literal device word!

That is OK for someone well acquainted with Linux/UBUNTU, but how do I find out the correct "device" term for an external USB hard drive that is not mounted or even detected?

This same problem has been occurring with Windows XP and with Windows Vista. That is why I switched to UBUNTU.

Could it be some sort of malware that has not yet been identified? Or could it be some flaw in the USB protocol that is just emerging?

Before we can send this bug off to the developers we need some more information.
Could you please follow the steps after executing the command 'ubuntu-bug' and post a link to the new bug report here? That would provide us with a lot of information.

You could execute the command in a console, but since it launches an application you can also execute it with the "Execute Application" box that can be summoned with the Alt+F2 short-cut.
