HPLIP 3.9.2 Communication error

Bug Description
sudo hp-check -t shows the device is idle, but when I try to print it says there is a communication error or device is busy.

I have similar problem: I have a HP Laserjet 2300d (connected with an USB port) that worked nicely with Karmic Kubuntu (64-bit). After the upgrade to Lucid, it stopped working. I've tried but I cannot get it to work again. The computer sees the printer:
$ lsusb

But it fails to communicate with it somehow:
