Bug Description

Kubuntu 9.04 Beta: "Configure file sharing" button doesn't do anything.

1.) Open Dolphin.
2.) Select a folder -> mouse's second button -> Properties -> Share.
3.) Click on "Configure file sharing". It doesn't do anything (it tries call to kcmshell fileshare, but it isn't installed).

The first time, this button must ask to install kde-network-fileshare.

I have same problem in 9.10 x64

The work around linked in #3 does not solve the problem (sudo apt-get install python-glade2 python-gtk2)

One and an half years on, this is still active in 10.04 (fresh install).

The workaround in #2 didn't work for me either.

OK, here's how I got it working:

1. sudo apt-get install kdenetwork-filesharing

2. sudo apt-get install samba

3. sudo chmod u+s /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/fileshareset
(Give non-root users access to Dolphin/Konqueror shares.)

4. (Optional step if it's still not working):
   sudo rm -R /var/tmp/kdecache-root

Changed in kdebase (Ubuntu):

Problem exists in 10.10 fresh install.

All four steps in #6 were necessary to correct the issue.

Seems like this would be a fairly easy fix to incorporate.

This still seems to be an issue in 10.10. Isn't there a command that launches KPackageKit with specific packages to install? I thought I'd seen this in other areas where there were buttons that would do nothing without them being installed.

Anyway, installed kdenetwork-filesharing, samba and deleted the kdecache and it worked. (accidentally posted this on a duplicate bug)

Still not work in Kubuntu 11.04 Beta 1.
1. Installed kdenetwork-filesharing (should be by default?)
2. Try to set the grant access in Share tab of Dolphin folder "Properties" but the changes are not applied.
3. To apply the changes I must reboot but the changes are only apparent, if I try to browser the folder via samba from other PC I can't for grant problems.

Giuseppe
