Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

After performing a successful upgrade of Kubuntu Intrepid to Jaunty, the "dont-zap" option to enable/disable ctrl-alt-backspace is missing.

This option is present on my non-upgraded Jaunty laptop.

The upgraded system is missing the package "dontzap", and after installing that, the option is then present.

The problem is that:

Package: kdebase-workspace-bin
Source: kdebase-workspace
Priority: optional
Section: kde
Installed-Size: 12360
Maintainer: Kubuntu Developers <email address hidden>
Architecture: i386
Version: 4:4.2.1a-0ubuntu1~intrepid3
Recommends: dontzap
...

from the PPA already has the recommends (but the package is not available). So the upgrader thinks this recommends was already seen (and the user did not wanted it).

This is only a problem on PPA -> jaunty upgrades, I just tested the normal intrepid->jaunty upgrade and dontzap got installed for me.

I just dup'ed 349263 to this as I had the same problem. The difference is I upgraded from intrepid-backports where the same situation occurs. Dontzap isn't needed in Intrepid because of the default. We do need to add it for Jaunty, so I think that we ought to have update-manager work around this case (since upgrades from backports are a supported use case).

@Scott: thanks for clarifying, I added the required option in the releae upgrade now, it will be part of the next upload.

This bug was fixed in the package update-manager - 1:0.111.1

---------------
update-manager (1:0.111.1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * DistUpgrade/DistUpgrade.cfg:
    - ensure that dontzap is installed on kubuntu (LP: #349263)
    - ensure to not upgrade to a known broken python2.6 (e.g.
      if the mirrors do not catch up)
  * DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeController.py:
    - avoid conffile prompt because we enabled apport (LP: #348301)
    - deal better with apt ordering bugs and restore the system
      cleanly in this case
    - when commenting out third party sources, leave a space
      between previous comments (thanks to Sidnei da Silva)
  * DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeCache.py:
    - add "BadVersions" config option
  * UpdateManager/Core/MetaRelease.py:
    - ignore bad header line errors (LP: #353335)
  * UpdateManager/UpdateManager.py:
    - start minimized when run with --no-focus-on-map (LP: #353195)
    - set urgency hint when in the background (LP: #353195)
  * po/*.po:
    - updated translations from rosetta

I just did an update from Ubuntu Intrepid to Jaunty on an i686 computer, and this bug is still present - dontzap wasn't automatically installed.

How did you upgrade and what KDE version did you have installed before the
upgrade?

I did an upgrade from Ubuntu Intrepid, not Kubuntu Intrepid. I didn't have KDE installed. I used upgrade-manager.

dontzap not being installed is normal for Ubuntu. It's only part of Kubuntu by default.

i have a clean ubuntu jaunty installation (from release). the release not indicate that dontzap --disable should work. it does not. dontzap is not installed and can not be installed from the regular ubuntu repositories. how to get dontzap?

----
the new magic-s method does not work, as these keys are often captured by other programs (eg. screen dumps in firefox)

thank you

Install the package dontzap using your favorite package management tool.
The dontzap package is included by default in Kubuntu, but not in Ubuntu.
