Bug Description

When visiting https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tracker/+bug/199598 in Konqueror 3.5 (actually 3.5.4-13.6.el5), clicking on the "Edit this summary" button in the bug title has no effect at all. In Firefox 3, this turns the bug title into an edit field; in Konqueror 3.5 with Javascript disabled, it switches to a new page (https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tracker/+bug/199598/+edit) which allows to edit the bug.

I realize that 3.5 is pretty old, but it's stable successor (4.2) is still very new so the old version is still much in use (not to mention the cases where you're stuck with an old system which simply does not offer newer versions). So it would be very useful to have this browser supported.

Hi Oliver, thanks for the report.
We have explicitly tweaked the javascript to not apply when using Konqueror 3.5, as it doesn't support some extremely basic CSS and javascript features, making it impossible for us to support it properly.

Changed in launchpad:
status: New → Won't Fix

Well can't you fall back to the old, non-Javascript version then for this browser? The point is that right now, editing the title in the edge version does not work _at_all_ for me in Konqueror 3.5 - I have to manually disable Javascript in the Preferences to get a working site.

Oh, absolutely, that's the intended behavior, we already have a bug opened for it, so I guess this is a duplicate of that one.

To clarify, do you mean "Editing the summary is impossible", or "I don't see
the flashy ajax version, and get taken to a plain old form"?

I mean "Editing the summary is impossible". Apparently it tries to use the flashy ajax version but the browser bugs prevent it from working correctly.

Falling back to the plain old form would be an acceptable fix, I think.

However, I just noticed that this only affects the little edit icon right in the bug title (which turns the bug title into an edit text in FF3 when clicked). When using the "Update description / tags" link further below instead, I'm correctly taken to the separate edit page. So the edit page is not completely unreachable :-) but similar problems might appear in other ajaxified links, and also it's certainly not nice to have a "dead link" up there.

Thank you for additional information Oliver.

I've landed a fix for this in the latest version of Launchpad, 2.2.2. In
Konqueror 3.5, you should now be taken to the separate edit page if you
click on the Edit button beside the title.

Does the behaviour work as described for you?
