Bug Description
The bug in the xine update triggers a bug in dpkg.
If you encountered this problem and dpkg is refusing to install/remove package now (sudo dpkg --configure -a no longer working), please try the following and let me know if that fixes the problem:
1. wget https:/
2. dpkg -i dpkg_1.
- verify that it installs correctly and runs some pending trigger actions
- run "sudo dpkg --configure -a" and verify that this works without error
Please let me know if that fixes the issue for you. The dpkg bug is described here:

All seems to be working fine here. The instructions from dust worked without a hitch. Thank you.

Michael:
thank You for your help on this matter but I am afraid I corrected the problem by reformating my computer with Ubuntu 8.10 again.
If the problem shows itself again I will apply Your fix and let You know if it helps.
I had no idea that someone would be responding to this bug so quickly, I asked for help from the Ubuntu forum but no luck there so I just reformated, next time I get a bug I will be sure to wait a while before I go to that extreme.
Kind Regards

The thing that catches me the most is the superuser privilege thing, what dose it mean?
BrianS (brians200) wrote : | #33 |
to get super user privilege, simply type "sudo" before your command and you will be prompted for administrator password. It basically is a way to keep people from messing with your system.
sudo dpkg -i dpkg_1.

according to the comments, this seems to be indeed to be a duplicate of bug #323894, which has been fixed now.
I'm therefore closing this bugtask instead of marking every singe duplicate of this bug as duplicate of #323894.
