Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Using Ubuntu 8.10, nautilus 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu1.

I have the left sidebar of nautilus set to display "tree" view. Normally two items are shown: "Home Folder" and "File System". When I plug in a USB device and it automounts, I get a third item for that device. When I right click on the USB device and select "unmount" (or "eject", which is sometimes available) immediately after mounting and before browsing any files on the device, the tree view returns to the normal two items. But if I browse any files on the device first, the usb device remains in tree view, although an error occurs if I try to access it. If I plug the device back in again without closing the nautilus window, another copy of the device appears in the tree view.

The device ought to disappear from the tree view regardless of whether I'm browsing files on the device when I unmount it.

Thank you for your bug report, could you run gvfs-mount -li before and after unmounting the device, what do you call browsing a file on the disk? you mean open something there? what application do you use?

I've attached gvfs-mount -li logs for before and after unmounting the device.

I do not have to open a file from the device to replicate the bug, just browse to the root directory of the device before unmounting.

In my testing I have noticed that if I am not in the root directory of the device when I unmount, then the bug does not occur. I have also not been able to replicate this bug on my USB key, although I had previously replicated it many times on Hardy and assumed that it would still be there on Intrepid. So I can only confirm the bug on my Sansa Clip music player, which is also having issues being recognized by rhythmbox (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/291810).

not confirming using a standard usb key, to send to bugzilla.gnome.org where the people writting the software will read it by somebody having the hardware to trigger the issue

No, from what you wrote, I thought you were forwarding it on.
Honestly, I'm busy and not interested in duplicating effort.

closing the bug then, nobody else seems able to replicate this. feel free to re open the report if you sent it upstream, thanks.

OK, I installed 8.10 on a new machine and it is also showing this bug, with a different USB device this time. To replicate, make sure you have two or more nautilus windows open and showing tree view when you unmount the USB device. The USB device does not disappear from tree view in either window after it is unmounted.

should be marked as confirmed, as it is upstream. I am experiencing this (annoying bug) which is still present in 9.04.

I work around this bug by a double tap of F9 (show, hide the sidebar)
