You weren't actually on the upgraded transitional package. If you upgrade to the "new" transitional package, you "should" be able to purge. Can you verify?

my current version for bluez is 4.120-ubuntu1, the package that won't uninstall is at the same version, however when I reinstall it there are no problems.

This bug was fixed in the package bluez - 4.12-0ubuntu2

---------------
bluez (4.12-0ubuntu2) intrepid; urgency=low

  * debian/control:
    - Move libbluetooth3 to the top of the list so that it is the
      package that gets to keep the real changelog rather than symlinks.
    - Only Replaces: packages rather than conflicts to help with
      upgrades (LP: #279954)

Just to let you know - my problem was fixed also. I reinstalled because of some other things that wouldn't uninstall fully. (They were part of the Go Play package.) Now, I have no problems connected to bluez. Thank you.
