Bug Description
Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird
One of the best features of KMail is that after checking mail, a message REMAINS in the status bar saying a time (and date), and that there are no new messages. It lets you see that mail checking is going on in the background. Howerver, in Thunderbird, the status message flickers very briefly (often too quickly to read), and then disappears.
This is something that has been constant in Thunderbird over the last few releases that I've used.

I can confirm this. Same behaviour using 'thunderbird 2.0.0.19+ nobinonly- 0ubuntu0. 8.10.1' . Would be a nice feature, even if one would have to enable it explicitly. Now, maybe this should be forwarded to upstream?
