Bug Description

Binary package hint: kde-i18n-es

Once Kubuntu is already installed, it cannot be fully translated to other language different than language choosen during installation process.
I have seen this on Gutsy and Hardy by the moment in these cases:
* Installing Kubuntu in Spanish, and later trying to set it into English.
* Installing Kubuntu in English, and later trying to set it into Spanish.

I do this selecting the correct KDE language and system language in kcontrol.

The result is a partially translated KDE desktop.

This bug is not present in Debian.

It happens in KDE4 in intrepid. I've installed the kde-l10n-es package and selected Spanish in the systemsettings panel but still KDE is in english.

I can confirm it too for Polish in Intrepid. I've just installed the package (kde-l10n-pl_4.1.2-1_all.deb) from Debian repository and now it's works.

Korean Translation is broken, too. I think currently Kubuntu only ships only KDE *3* translations, not any KDE *4* translations. When I tried to find KDE 4 translations, such as Plasma or Okular, there is *nothing*.

$ sudo apt-file update
$ apt-file search kdelibs4.mo
(nothing)
$ apt-file search kio4.mo
(nothing)
$ apt-file search libplasma.mo
(nothing)

There *should* be those mo files.

Translations in Ubuntu are provided by language-pack-kde-$$

The regional & settings dialog is also able to install necessary language packages after initial installation.

I have installed language-pack-kde-es and I can confirm that I can't fully translate KDE to Spanish. That was the case also for previous versions of Kubuntu (KDE3 and KDE4) but it was solved once the kde-l10n-es and kde-i18n-es packages were installed and I changed the language in the systemsettings or kcontrol applications (language-pack-kde-XX does not depend on kde-i18n-XX or kde-l10n-XX). So it is not invalid or it has been a bug in language-pack-kde-XX that has been there since the beginning of Kubuntu.

Change status to 'new'. I cannot understand why this is invalid. I'm currently using Intrepid, KDE 4.1.2.
1) There is *no* KDE 4.x related po files. As Harald Sitter said, I found the files for language-pack-kde-$$(-base), there isn't *any* KDE 4.x related components, like Dolphin, Plasma, etc.
2) Because of it, when I run programs in KDE 4.x, like Dolphin, the program remains *untranslated* in Kubuntu, but it is already translated in KDE upstream.
I suggest we should split language-pack-kde into language-pack-kde and language-pack-kde3, which contains translations from KDE 4 and 3.

As my locale is ko_KR, I will nominate language-pack-kde-ko as a buggy package. They should contain KDE 4 stuff.

Hey, It seems that ubuntu teams are crazy. If k/ubuntu offers languages in their direct support without loco teams, I can understand. But in this case, many people are supporting and translating for k/ubuntu without any payment. Then ubuntu teams have to correct this bug at least!? I think that ubuntu has to change its name as President George W bushuntu or Director Kimuntu if this bug does not fix.

I am sure, this bug is not a duplicate of bug #259180, they are different bugs.
This bug is about partial translation when kde translation packages are available, installed and in use.
