Gets bogus DNS servers during PPP negotiation

I'm attempting to get my 3G card working with Network Manager (see https:/
I end up with:

Aug 17 13:59:37 perseus pppd[29978]: primary DNS address 10.11.12.13
Aug 17 13:59:37 perseus pppd[29978]: secondary DNS address 10.11.12.14
10.11.12.13 and .14 are not the correct DNS server addresses.
In contrast, when using ifupdown, I get the correct addresses, though I do see the bogus ones appearing at an early stage of the negotiation:
