Note that Open Library source code (including template code as far as I know) is GPL3, not CC or PD.

Absolutely! GPLv3 on source, PD for all user contributions and content.

For now, there is statement on pdregistry.ca that says "The bibliographic record data is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution license version 2.5. "

This is part of the original pdwiki collaboration agreement, but must be resolved before the site goes live so that the original data is under CC Attribution Canada license version 2.5, but after attribution, all other data is released into the public domain. Right now the bottom of the site states this, but we really don't want to be and/or state that we are licensing data.

This is esp. true "since data (facts) are not copyrightable (thus licenseable)" (quoth greg-g)

Right now we are okay, since site is locked, but need to resolve best path forward asap.

The partnership agreement requires the original dataset is to be licensed under CC Canada Attribution 3.0. However, it has been suggested, and I agree, that the most appropriate site licence is a Public Domain dedication for a number of reasons, including: (1) PD licence is used by other initiative affiliates such as Open Library and allows for global data integration; (2) talking the talk, requires walking the walk; and (3) the copyrightability of bibliographic data (read: facts) is not clear.

Therefore, it is proposed that, upon public launch, the site contain a notice giving social attribution to Access Copyright for providing the initial dataset but dedicating it, and all further data, to the Public Domain.
