crash occurs when attempting pen stroke color change

I would like to start by saying I love Inkscape and I am by no means a programmer so with that out of the way, I have had inkscape crash whenever I try changing the stroke color in the preferences panel for the pen tool. The message I get reads, Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now. It still happens after restarting my computer(HP Media Center PC m7640n). I run Inscape in Kubuntu.

I also have this problem when changing the colour of rectangle on OS X on 0.46. It has rendered InkScape completely unusable.

I believe this has been fixed in svn, could you try this again with a development version, and see if it still occurs?

I am new to Inkscape. I have also this problem. Every time I try to change the color of pen - for example in a circle - it causes Inkscape to crash. This is really a major problem and Inkscape is completely useless for me.

I run MacBookPro 2.4 Ghz Intel Core Duo with 2 Gb 1067 MHz ddr3. OS is Mac OS X 10.5.6, Inkscape version is 0.46.

I have experienced a closely related bug. For me, inskcape crashes when I use the preferences menu to try to change the stroke or fill for the ellipse tool. It crashes with the message "Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now". (Changing the stroke or fill directly via the bottom toolbar is ok).

I have also noticed that the options for the ellipse tool are "greyed out" and unavailable (I cannot select arcs, segments or whole ellipses, and can thus only draw the default whole ellipses). This affects every new or saved inkscape file that I open, so is a very serious problem.

This all began when inkscape crashed, with a similar message, when I was adding some arcs to an object.

System info: I have Inkscape 0.46 running under XQuartz 2.3.1 and Mac OS X 10.56 (Leopard).

I am not a programmer, but please let me know if I can provide any more info about this bug that would be useful.

- if the crash occurs in the Inkscape Preferences dialog, then this has been fixed in the development version, see Bug 236435
- you may want to try a more recent development build

Thank you very much Alvin. I installed the latest development build (March 2009) for Mac OS 10.5 and can confirm that the bug causing Inkscape to crash in the Preferences dialog is fixed.
