I can confirm the same. Using sessions to remember the running applications does not work. Have to start afresh all these applications.

I use Intrepid Ibex Alpha2 with all updates applied.

I think this bug has been fixed in Alpha 4, can some people confirm?

Compiz fusion loads up automatically here and firefox starts if I have not closed it when I logged out the last time.

Trying to add a new line in the session manager doesn't work either (it even doesn't let me create a line for compiz)

This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in gnome-session.

Also, this should be fixed with gnome-session version 2.23.92. Sojourner, what version is your gnome-session?

Does the new session infrastructure even have the features of the old one? As far as I can tell, there's no obvious way to set the order in which the .desktop files get executed. (at least not one google's found for me yet)

Is there a workaround, I mean, can I do all my applications into autostart and tell any of them to start on a certain workspace?

But nothing returns when you logoff, just the applications that are added on the sessions. The button "Remember Currently Running Application" does nothing, and the check box "automatically remember running applications(...)" don't remeber nothing too.
On last Ubuntu (8.04) this used to work very good, until remembering the positions of the windows in the desktops

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 i386.

As a temporary workaround I've downgraded gnome-session to 2.22.1.1-0ubuntu2 and gnome-panel to 2.22.2-0ubuntu1.1. I don't know if this has broken anything else but so far I haven't noticed any side effects (apart from the new shutdown menu options missing) and session saving is working as it was before I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10.

I've tested what Andrew suggested but with less modifications: I only
downgraded the gnome-session, the gnome-panel is intact. Now the
gnome-session remeber what applications you have marked to save and where
desktop they were. I did this by removing the gnome-session and installing
the version that Andrew said (2.22.2-0ubuntu1.1). This '.deb' for download
is here http://www.mediafire.com/?gyfdyamlznc (uploaded by me).

Thanks for all help!

The reason I downgraded gnome-panel as well as gnome-session was that the shutdown options wouldn't work in the system menu. It could have been due to something else though so I think I might install 2.24 again and see what happens.

Oh yes!!! I checked it now, when I saw your email, and the options to "Shut
Down..." or "Log Out user..." doesn't work! Hahaha
But how the newest gnome-panel (2.24) has, in the right, the button to do
this things in one click I don't matter about it. Another thing that I not
tested yet is the option "Automatically remember running applications when
logging out" if is working, but probably is...

Thanks for helping!
