I added intrepid to my sources.list and apt-get installed an intrepid

And it got enabled in the Restricted drivers dialog. I unchecked the box, rebooted, and now I have working wifi.

so a lingering bug is that ath_pci is also getting installed, but it may be a result of:

Arie, please try

* If it is not working with live CD, try using the package backports-modules-intrepid. It will provide the ath5K driver.

This bug is about WI-FI using AR242x.

Does anyone still have this problem on 8.04.1 (LTS)?

Does anyone still have this problem on 8.10?
Does anyone still have this bug after applying the blacklist and package described in bug 288148?

If your problems have been resolved, then simply please don't respond. If nobody responds, the bug will be closed.

If you DO still have problems after updating and applying the known Atheros workaround in bug 288148, then please attach (don't paste) the following updated information - (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related bug reports is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!

Yi,

Bug 228548 is about an AR242x that does not detect the network at all. Since you can detect the network, it is unlikely that this bug affects you.

Please consider checking on IRC (#ubuntu on irc.freenode.net) or the online forums at ubuntuforums.org to see if any common workarounds are already available for your issue. If not, please open a new bug report for your issue.

Reclosing this bug.

By the way guys, i've tested OpenSuse 11.1 and this is not an issue there.
So, i dont think here that is a only driver related problem.
