Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I have a document created with OpenOffice Word Processor in Ubuntu 7.10... Is only 32 in size with references cut and paste from the web mixed in with graphics and text... which turns out to be a 17 page document.

Anyhow I now have Ubuntu 8.04 installed, and when trying to scroll through the document quickly (looking for references, etc, basically normal use) OpenOffice will crash.

I have tried re-saving the file with a different name, which doesnt fix the problem. OpenOffice advised me on one occasion that the file was corrupt once and needed repair (which it did successfully... I think)... the repaired file has the same problem. I can work with the file for a while (usually) if I'm cautious not to scroll too quickly. On two different PCs (both with same OS and same OpenOffice) the same problem was occurring.

The problematic file is attached.

I can confirm the bug. The crash happens for me when ever I scroll down a document quickly. I am running Ubuntu 8.04 with Intel 855GM video card.

Hello,
I am confirming this bug.
Crash happens when scrolling through the document to certain point of the document with inserted section from another document (table from a html, in may case) and when attempting a print preview from affected document.
As I tested the document, submitted by teknopartz, in 2.4. version from Openoffice.org site and it does not cause writer crash, nor does my own, we may presume, that this is not caused by corrupted files.
The same bug still persists in version 1:2.4.1.-1ubuntu-2 from hardy-proposed.
Regards!

I can confirm this on openoffice.org 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2 but couldn't reproduce it on upstream version. It appears this must be an ooo-build related issue.

I suspect that this is a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/116750

@eknopartz: can you please look at 116750 and confirm if this issue is the same?

Hi NoOp,

I can confirm that this sounds like the same bug. I hadn't realised at the
time some of the html in my document seems to be loading images on the fly
(as seems to be the case in the reference attached / duplicate bug).

Sounds like a bug that's been around for a while.
