Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdebi

Ubuntu 8.04 beta, fully updated to 04/04/2008. Proprietary nvidia module installed.
gdebi version 0.3.6
Had clicked on a .deb package shown in the default Gnome file manager which was on a remote samba drive. Also got a crash in gvfs-fuse-daemon (see bug #211820) while attempting to install.
Had expected to be able to install the .deb package.

I fixed the crash now, not sure why you got the ioerror in the first place.
