Bug Description
This bug is being used to 'merge together' install/upgrade failures of outdated GRUB2 version, where we can likely no longer obtain more information or take any meaningful next steps.
If you are still affected by a similar issue on modern Ubuntu, please report a new bug.

So far this seems to point to two specific bad GRUB uploads:
- One 2.02 one ~2018
- One 2.04 one ~2019-2020
Both of the issues were most certainly fixed in newer versions because these stopped coming in at some point.
