Bug Description

The module /lib/modules/2.6.24-12-generic/kernel/drivers/media/video/saa7134/saa7134-alsa.ko is missing on linux-image-2.6.24-12-generic, so I'm not able to get any sound from my tv-tuner card.

Notes:
I've just dist-upgraded to Hardy, so I'm using Hardy repositories.

I'm pretty sure this is not a dupe of bug #200338 There is still no saa7134-alsa module in kernel linux-image-2.6.24-12-generic So you're not able to get sound from a tv card with saa7134 chipset.

When you search for saa7134-alsa.ko inside packages.ubuntu.com you'll find that saa7134-alsa.ko was inside linux-image-2.6.24-11-generic, but it can't be found inside linux-image-2.6.24-12-generic.

Same problem here (I have installed from a Hardy daily build from 03/15/2008) and got all updates until today.

Looks like CONFIG_VIDEO_SAA7134_ALSA is not enabled. I'll have the kernel team take a look. Thanks.

+1 for this... That is by now the only thing that keeps me booting Windows too often instead of Hardy.

I also have the same problem on my desktop too. After a little digging I found that the SAA7134-ALSA module can only be selected if "Sound->Advanced Linux Sound Architecture -> Advanced Linux Sound Architecture" is selected as a module first, which does not appear to be the case in the file /boot/config-2.6.24-12-generic

# CONFIG_SND is not set

Thanks

Looking at the bug reports it appears that this may be the same issue as 202065.

Hopefully I am helping and not hindering here.

Thanks

New kernel came but still no alsa modules for any tv chip. This might be related to Bug #192559 which is marked as fixed today

Hi, I've a saa7134 based board.

After loading saa7134_alsa that I waited a lot, my kernel hangs, hald stops loading and when gnome is up is quite inusable due to hald fail.

Attached my dmesg.

Regards, Eddi

I can confirm this.
I get an error message that HAL could not be loaded/initialized and my system is rendered unusable (you know, without hal...).

Workaround: It helps blacklisting the saa7134-alsa module so it seems there is really a problem with this one special module (probably it was excluded therefore?).

I had the same problem here. Is it necessary to open a new bug or, since it
came from this alsa inclusion on kernel, it can be just reported here?

Well, I've thinked a little more and then I believe it's better to report as another problem - since this current bug's title describes just the module missing (which was included, already). I've reported it as bug #212271 ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24/+bug/212271 ).
