In an ideal world, this would be actually done by upstream Linux makefiles, i.e. they would have conditional hook to install that file, and add it as a dep on an appropriate install target (i.e. install-headers or whatnot).

As all distributions so far manually create snippets like we did as well, to install this file in their packages.

Similarly other bits like these installed manually.

A slightly modified version of the patch was merged into Lunar (master-next). It checks for obj files as opposed to the relevant kconfig.
